Your guide to experiencing the Gargano region in Puglia, Italy!

Art in the Gargano

Not only does the Gargano Peninsula house some of the most magnificent art treasures in its cathedrals, monastic sights, and castles, it also inspires artistic creation.  Painters, photographers, craftsman, writers and musicians continue to find inspiration in this landscape, with its striking palette of blues and greens.

One can say this of the entire region of Puglia and as we discover more local artists and artisans we will share their work with you.  We know you will be as inspired as we are by the way artists in the Gargano have found a way to reflect in their work the colour, light, and aesthetic so evident in the natural landscape around them.

On our website, we will feature an artist who has been inspired by the Gargano and by the beauty of Puglia.  If you would like to recommend an artist or if you would like to have your work featured on this website, please use our Contact Form for more information.

Fine Art Photography

Tips from our artist of the month, a fine art-photographer:

The Gargano is one of the most picturesque areas in the world and the best time to capture landscape photography in the Gargano is at dusk.  Timing, weather and choice of equipment are critical.  You’ll need a 70-200mm telephoto or a wide angle lens depending on the subject, a circular polarizer to catch the formation of passing clouds and a tripod.

Can you get by with a point and shoot?  Yes, but the tripod is critical because you will be shooting in low light.  Take extended walks and drives during the day to find the subjects you are after.  Because there are so many ideal locations in the Gargano you will not have too much trouble.  In fact, if you are an avid photographer, you will wish that you simply had more time to photograph this gorgeous region.

Each time I visit I feel this way.  Make sure to stop down your lens (f16 or more), use your tripod and enjoy a glass of Puglian wine after you capture that perfect shot.  Good luck (bocca al lupo)!
